2 Nagpur men held for molestation at Calangute
Two tourists from Nagpur were nabbed red-handed when they attempted to outrage the modesty of two women from the Netherlands at Calangute beach on Friday afternoon.
Three women from the Netherlands were swimming in front of a popular shack at Calangute beach when a group of Maharashtrian tourists, swimming in the vicinity, came close to them and two of the men allegedly started grabbing the stomachs, thighs and legs of two of the women, Calangute PSI Nitin Halarnkar told STOI.The two men have been identified as Yogesh Zad, 24, and Yogesh Shelkar, 27, both from Nagpur. The two women whose modesty was outraged are aged around 30. Lifeguards who were in the area rushed to the assistance of the women when the latter raised an alarm, and caught the two men and later handed them over to the police.
The two tourists were taken into police custody and lodged at the Calangute police station after an offence under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) was registered against them. They were produced before the JMFC, Mapusa, on Saturday and remanded to 14 days judicial custody. PSI Nitin Halarnkar is conducting further investigations.
Three years ago, two domestic tourists-from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh-were arrested for outraging the modesty of a nine-year-old Russian girl while she was bathing off Arambol. While Anil Raghuvanshi distracted the child's mother, Aman Bharadwaj allegedly fondled the girl. Fast-tracking the case, a chargesheet was filed in less than a month, but the duo were later released by a court on benefit of doubt.
In another case in the same year, an Australian woman alleged she was molested by a masseur at a massage parlour near Arambol beach. And two years ago, a 20-year-old man from Hyderabad was arrested for molesting a Russian tourist at Arambol beach. The 22-year-old woman had been sun-bathing at the time. [TOI]
