20 principals participate in FDA’s hygiene programme

After raiding some college canteens and finding the conditions there, far from hygienic, the directorate of Food and Drugs Administration has conducted an awareness programme for all college principals on the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the related Rules / Regulation 2011, at Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao.
“Officer Nelson Fernandes gave a detailed presentation on various essential guidelines to be adopted by the college canteen contractors on sanitary and hygienic conditions and quality of food to be served to students. This will ensure that college principals in turn will regulate the canteen contractors so that they follow all these guidelines and thus students shall have an access to hygienic and safe food,” Director of FDA Salim Veljee said in a statement.
“The FDA is confident that such session on hygiene awareness amongst all stakeholders shall result in achieving good food safety standards for all consumers,” Veljee said.
Principals of around 20 colleges participated at the programme which was addressed by officials of the Food & Drugs Administration. [H]
