22 K’taka fishermen arrested
Twenty-two crew members of the 11 Karnataka fishing vessels were arrested by the Betul Coastal police station for not possessing identity documents as per law.
The 22 crew members, who were arrested under section 34 of the IPC were later produced before the Margao Sub-divisional Magistrate, who released on a personal bond of Rs 2000 each with one surety.
Betul Coastal police inspector, Gurudas Gawde told Herald that there were a total of 57 crew members onboard the 11 fishing vessels at the time of their detention. “Inquiries later revealed that 22 crew members had no documents in their possession to prove their identities”, he said, adding that they were arrested and later released on bail.
