PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar said that Mopa international airport, a spacious convention centre and an oceanarium are the three major projects on the anvil of his government to boost the state tourism.
The Chief Minister told The Navhind Times that the existing Dabolim airport handles 3.6 million tourists every year, even though one of the airline companies has closed down.
“And then Maharashtra is competing with us with its proposed airport at Sindhudurg,” he observed, stating that by 2015, Goa should compulsorily have airport facilities, which would handle 6 million air travelers, as against the present facility handling 3 million air travellers.
The Chief Minister further said that he made announcements about these major projects, while delivering a lecture at the recent PanIIT Alumni Global Conference held at Kolkata. The global expression of interest for the Mopa international airport is expected to be floated before the end of the current financial year. [NT]
