300 HP pumping system inaugurated at Sal
Water Resources Development Minister Dayanand Mandrekar on Saturday inaugurated the 300 HP pumping system at Sal-Bicholim, which is expected to provide added water supply to the Assonora Water Treatment plant to meet the needs of Bardez taluka.
“We will soon have sufficient water supply for Bardez taluka. Though water from Tillari is stopped, we have made arrangements of around 70 MLD of water from the Amthane Dam and 20 MLD from the Padoshe plant to supply around 90 MLD water to the Assonora water treatment plant to supply it to Bardez taluka,” said Mandrekar.
“The government cannot depend entirely on Tillari for drinking water and arrangements have been made to boost the water supply in north Goa,” he added.
Chief Engineer Sandeep Nadkarni stated that 50 hectares of land in Sal village has been provided with water from this temporary scheme.
“Providing drinking water is our first priority and we are making all efforts to provide enough water to Bardez taluka,” said Nadkarni.
Meanwhile, around 2,500 litres of kerosene has been distributed to farmers of Sal for their pumps to supply water to their cultivations.
Others present at the function included Executive Engineer Pramod Badami and Sal Sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut. [H]
