473 seafarers who returned via Norwegian cruise test negative

Vasco: All the 473 Goan seafarers who had come to Goa via a Norwegian cruise liner to Mormugao Port on Monday, tested negative for COVID-19. Later, after undergoing all the due protocol-related processes, all the Goan seafarers left to their respective houses for home quarantine.

Speaking to Herald, Jerry Clement, Sr Dy Transportation Manager confirmed that on Tuesday morning, the swab test results of the 473 Goan seafarers came as negative for COVID-19. Further the immigration and custom clearances happened on Tuesday simultaneously.

Clement further informed that on Tuesday evening, the Norwegian cruise liner MV Norwegian Escape sailed to the Mumbai port, where it will disembark other seafarers from Mumbai and Northern parts of India. A total of 2,900 seafarers were onboard of this vessel, he added.

On Monday, MPT under the Clement, along with the Cruise team and Shipping Agent ‘JM Baxi’ coordinated the entire sign off operation with various agencies and District Administration so that all the Goan Seafarers had a smooth sign-off by duly observing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). [H]
