PANAJI: Five Goan youth footballers in the U-12 age group have been selected to be part of FCBEscola Delhi NCR, FC Barcelona’s official football academy in India to play in the International FCBEscola Tournament to be held from March 25 to 28 in Barcelona.
Flan Gomes, Bevan Monteiro, Ayan Lall, Shanon Viegas and Samward Pereira, all born in 2001, were selected by FCBEscola Delhi for their remarkable skills and potential.
The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) has provided great support in the pre-selection of the kids and in enabling them to travel to Barcelona.
The selected young footballers will undergo extensive training of one week prior to their departure, at the FCBEscola Delhi NCR facility in Gurgaon.
A team of 9 young footballers will represent India as the squad of FCBEscola Delhi NCR in the International FCBEscola Tournament. Apart from 5 players selected from Goa, there are 3 players from Delhi NCR and 1 from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The tournament will provide a chance for budding footballers from India to play against their peers from other FCBEscola teams spread across the globe in Peru, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Dubai, Poland, Egypt and Spain, among others.
Started in 2012, The International FCBEscola Tournament is an annual competition for the FCBEscola teams worldwide. Last year, there were 53 teams of various age groups representing 9 countries. The tournament will be held in the Mini Estadi facilities next to Camp Nou where famous players like Messi, Xavi all started their careers, amidst cheering crowds and representatives of FC Barcelona who keenly observe the development of football amongst the participating youngsters under the Barca methodology.
Taking a cue from the talent that exists in Goa, the city is set to host five days of intensive football camp conducted by none other than FC Barcelona in association with Conscient Football.
Camps at Tilak Maidan, Vasco
The camps will be held at Tilak Maidan, Vasco from April 24 to 28, and will be conducted by Jordi Arasa, Coordinator of the FCBEscola Delhi NCR. The camp will be for Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 17 age groups.
Registration forms will be made available at Champs outlets, according to Mr Savio Messias.
FCB coach for 6 years in Barcelona. Scientifically developed, the training programme is for children in the age groups of 6-17. Participants in the camps are trained in the Barca way of playing football.
The camp is not only about training. The last day of the camp will witness team matches by the participants formed in groups
The FC Barcelona camps are part of the forthcoming FCBEscola Academy to be set-up in Delhi NCR by this year end. FCBEscola is the youth development academy of FC Barcelona and will be set-up in India to nurture talents. With unrivalled passion for football that exists in India, the youth development programme will seek out talents and create a platform for footballers of tomorrow. While thousands of young kids will be trained over the next years, the camp in Vasco is part of the trail to identify talents of the future.
