6th D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas to begin on Feb 2
The 6th D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture and commencing from February 2, at Kala Academy will open with a panel discussion on ‘Depiction of Women in Indian Media.’
Altogether, six world-renowned personalities, including three speakers from outside India, linked to various fields would also be delivering lectures of substantial knowledge.
The panel discussion setting tone for the intellectual festival will be participated by the Bharatiya Janata Party-affiliated politician, Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, renowned filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, editor-in-chief of ‘Outlook India,’ Mr Vinod Mehta, noted adman, Piyush Pandey, actor, Gul Panag and Editor-in-Chief of IBN18 Network, Mr Rajdeep Sardesai.
The lectures at the six-day event will commence with a lecture delivered by Nobel Laureate and the director general of The Energy and Resources Institute, New Delhi, Dr R K Pachauri on ‘Ethics and Governance’ on February 3. The second lecture would be delivered by the eminent political theorist in Britain and an active member in the House of Lords, Prof Lord Bhikhu Parekh on ‘The Indian Tradition of Public Debate’ on February 4.
The third lecture in the series is scheduled to be delivered on February 5 by Dr Sakena Yacoobi, the executive director of the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL), an Afghan women-led NGO on the topic, ‘Working with youth to bring change to society through education and teaching them core values.’
The next lecture will be delivered on the topic, ‘Education in South Africa: A Game of Snakes and Ladders’ by the Registrar of the Wits University, Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr Kirti Menon on February 6. The final lecture based on the topic ‘Preparing for the Information Age’ has been organised on February 7 and will be delivered by Mr Ajit Balakrishnan, the founder and CEO of Rediff.com
All the programmes at the D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas will commence at 5 pm. The Directorate of Art and Culture had initiated the D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas to commemorate the birth centenary of the celebrated Goan, Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, a renowned mathematician, statistician, historian and polymath who contributed to genetics by introducing Kosambi’s Map Function. This festival is the only one of its kind in the country. [NT]
