7 await results for dengue in South Goa

 

 Seven persons from various parts of South Goa are awaiting results of medical tests to find out if they have contracted dengue, against the backdrop of four patients having already tested positive for the disease in the village of Mobor-Cavelossim.
 
One person from Curchorem has been admitted to Hospicio hospital, while two persons from Colva-Benaulim belt, one from Margao and three from Fatorda and Gogol area are admitted at a private hospital in Margao and are awaiting test results.In Mobor-Cavelossim, health officers have stated that from the samples of five patients that were sent for testing, only one patient tested negative.
 
Primary health officer of Chinchinim Nixon Fernandes had confirmed that these four patients have tested positive after confirmatory tests were carried out.
 
Fernandes said that no fresh cases or suspected cases have come to light after measures were initiated by the health centre and added that health department is continuing its anti-larvae operations in the villages of Mobor-Cavelossim and have also begun fogging operations in the neighbouring villages.
 
He further pointed out that at the awareness programme conducted last Saturday, initiated by a church organization in coordination with the Mobor-Cavelossim village panchayat and health services, the people were advised to keep the surroundings clean and informed of fogging and other measures.
 
Benaulim MLA Caitu D'Silva said that all precautions are being taken to ensure that there is no outbreak of dengue in the area and that fogging and destroying the habitat of mosquitoes is already under way on a war footing to destroy the breeding of mosquitoes in that area. [TOI]
