83 policemen to retire this year
The Goa police department will bid farewell to 83 personnel in this new financial year owing to their retirement. The figures tabled in the State Legislative Assembly, last week, reveal that most of the retired personnel will include sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors besides others such as drivers and sweepers.
From April 2010-March 2013, a total of 193 officials of various ranks retired and few among them took voluntary retirement packages. During this period, four police inspectors – Ulhas Dessai, Ulhas Sail, Suresh Mayenkar and Manjunath Desai – were among other retirees.
To fill the vacuum and enlarge the total strength from 5000-odd number, the police force has already begun a massive recruitment drive. The department will have nearly 25 per cent young recruits.
Six sets of recruitments began since December last year, a mass recruitment which comes almost a decade after 2002 wherein around 900 police personnel were recruited in one go.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Allen De Sa is likely to retire on superannuation in 2014. He has already completed 34 years of service this month. [H]
