A tribute to Pt Ravi Shankar by Ustad Zakir Hussain

SnK events in collaboration with Pancham Nishad Creative are organising a solo performance of Tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain as a tribute to the sitar maestro late Pandit Ravi Shankar. It will be held on December 14 at 6 p.m. at DMK auditorium, Kala Academy, Panaji.
“Considering the strong bond the two legendary artists shared, this event is more than just an event and is in fact a shraddhanjali to Pt Ravi Shankar from Ustad Zakir Hussain,” says Sumedha Desai of SnK events. A solo tabla performance is rarely done. People seriously interested in music are the ones who will enjoy a tabla solo and even students studying music will be able to see how the maestro plays from close quarters. “In order to provide access to students we have arranged student passes for ` 300, they can in fact sit in the wings and closely watch the tabla legend and the techniques used by him to create his magic,” adds Sumedha.
Sarangi player Sabir Khan is a young and promising talent and will be accompanying Ustad Zakir Hussain with the 100 stringed instrument. “Generally a harmonium is what accompanies a tabla performance, but we felt that the melodious and rarely heard sarangi would be the ideal accompaniment,” says Sumedha. The tickets are priced at ` 1000 and
` 500(except for student passes which cost ` 300) and will be available at Kala Academy. The student passes will be available at Bharat Electronics behind main post office. “The seating will be according to seat numbers chosen by audience and not on first come first serve basis,” informs Sumedha.
