AA de Moira, St Christopher’s, HC Arambol win
Craig Menezes netted a hat-trick in AA de Moira Sports Club’s 5-3 win over Friends XI Vaddem, in the GFA Third Division League match (Bardez Zone), played at Moira grounds, here on Friday. At the lemon- break, Moira were leading by 3-1 margin.
In the 18th minute of play, Vaddem’s Clive Fernandes surprised their opponents, with a gem of a goal.
However, Karte Shetye netted the equaliser for Moira, in the 38th minute, with Craig Menezes hammering in two more goals before the breather.
On crossing over, Denzil Sequeira scored the second goal for Vaddem side, only to see Craig Menezes score his hat- trick. The never-say-die spirit saw Vaddem score yet another goal through Clive Fernandes to make it 4-3.
In the 70th minute, Moira’s Davesh Raut scored the fifth goal to take the score tally to 5-3.
At Tivim grounds, St Christopher’s Sports Club Tivim defeated BAFF Sports Club Bicholim 1-0.
Heavy rains almost throughout the match saw the play being restricted to midfield.
Finally in the 48th minute, Anslem D’Souza scored for Tivim off a pass from Bernard Ferrao.
As the match progressed, St Christopher had number of chances to further increase their lead, but BAFF keeper Akshya Govekar came with some brilliant saves to deny Ashley and Anslem from scoring.
At St Anthony’s church grounds Siolim, Holy Cross Sports Club Arambol secured full points as they defeated Xetrapal Sports Club 3-1.
Hemant Rodrigues (10th min), Dominic Alfonso (24th min) and Amit Fernandes (88th min) scored for Arambol, while Raghuvir Shirodkar managed to score the consolation goal for Xetrapal.
Yesterday At St Anthony’s church grounds, Siolim St Anthony’s sports club Marna registered a 5-2 win over Football Club of Siolim, also to secure full points.
PVC Parra registered a 3-1 win over Sai Avatar Sports Club Anjuna.
Rohit Pinto scored a brace in the 21st minute and 82nd minute of play, with Brian Fernandes netting the third goal for Parra. At the other end, Sadanand Jadhav of Anjuna managed to score on receiving a through pass from Rajesh Shirodkar.
At Chapora grounds, host club Chapora YS were held to a 2-2 draw by Adarsh YS Saligao. Dominic Trinidad drew the first blood in the 47th minute of play from outside the penalty box.
As the match progressed, Saligao exerted pressure and finally levelled terms through Aswin Morje in the 78th minute.
Once again Chapora took the lead through Marceline Fernandes, only to find Pankaj Morje who scored the equaliser to make it 2-2. [NT]
