Advisory panel on buffer zone scrapped

Falling back on the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) report on buffer zones to the Supreme Court and its acceptance of the same as well as the government cabinet decision of October 17 that decided about having a 1 km buffer zone in the state, the government has cancelled the local committee appointed to advise it about the same.

It may be recalled that the government after giving the committee an extension till October 31 for finalising the report had decided on October 17 itself about what should be the buffer zone and submitted the same to the Centre.
The committee was constituted on November 9, 2011 to modify the Yaduvanshi Committee Report (June 2007) after a letter from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, New Delhi had picked holes in it and issued guidelines. It had asked for the final report to be submitted within one month. [NT]
