Agonda locals confront engineer over water supply

Irked over irregular water supply, Agonda Sarpanch Navneeta Naik Gaunkar on Monday led a delegation of panchas and some residents to the PWD (water supply) office at Chaudi-Canacona.
In the absence of Assistant Engineer Velingkar, who was attending the assembly session, the agitated residents confronted the junior engineer Deepraj. The Agonda residents threatened to go on indefinite agitation from April 13 if the authorities failed to improve water supply in the next nine days.
Sarpanch Gaunkar told the PWD engineer that villagers of Agonda are suffering due to improper supply of water for the last 22 days.
“There is no dearth of water at Chapoli dam besides the taluka has 15 MLD water treatment plant at Shristhal. Why still water is not properly provided to Agonda,” questioned the sarpanch.
Deepraj, however, informed about his inability to provide the full supply, saying he has to augment the supply with the limited stock of treated water he is given at the Agonda storage tank.
According to Panch Sapnesh Dessai, their efforts to seek explanation from the concerned JE in-charge of water treatment plant were unsuccessful as the JE left on seeing the people enter the government office complex.
Deputy Sarpanch Pramod Phaldessai alleged that while Agonda villagers are made to suffer for water needs, water is freely provided to mega projects and big-time hotels in the taluka. [H]
