Aguada jail inmates to get entrepreneurial training

After skill training imparted at Sada jail, the inmates at Aguada jail would be trained in entrepreneurship skills, as part of their rehabilitation process and to prepare them for life after release from jail.
The initiative launched by I Create, India in collaboration with Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry is part of the 'I- Create methodology in entrepreneurship skills development training to jail inmates'. I-Create India is a subsidiary of the I Create Inc USA. GCCI has already trained nearly 30 male Sada jail inmates in September, who came with unique business ideas during the nine-day programme.
Speaking to reporters GCCI chairman Manguirish Pai Raikar said that the inmates from Sada jail, who participated in the programme, were basically qualified people with very good business skills.
“They contributed tremendous ideas such as starting dairy in the jail and distributing diary products, making different varieties of pickle, supplying food to industrial estates through tiffins, pastry shops, etc,” he said.
The state government is already imparting training in making bakery products to these inmates who have already learnt preparing bread and biscuits in the bakery unit set up there.
Raikar said that the trade body is planning to start a similar programme in Aguada jail, for which nod has already been granted by IG Prisons. However, he said, due to the upgradation work at the jail, the programme is getting delayed.
I-Create’s Dr Ulhas Kamat said that the basic aim of the concept is to upgrade entrepreneurship skills amongst undertrials and convicts who face a major problem once released from jail. The I Create, India and GCCI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 15 professional and degree colleges in the State, wherein a programme ‘changing in mindset-entrepreneurship as a career option’ was held for students. Similarly, an initiative ‘creating job creators’ was held for rural people, especially females, widows and dropout students.
Kamat said that the trade body had organized a Regional Business Plan Competition for colleges from all over Goa, the winners of which would compete at state level on Friday. The top three winners will represent Goa at national level competition, to be held in January 2013.  [H]
