AIFF survive Salgaocar FC scare

Mapusa: Title contenders AIFF were seen struggling before gaining a narrow 1-0 win over Salgaocar Football Club in the AIFF U-18 I-League match played at Duler Stadium, here on Sunday.Having won their previous three league matches, AIFF seemed determined to continue with their winning streak and had their first crack at the rival goal in the third minute of play when Hrishi Dhath set up Edmund Lalrindika, who hoodwinked the Salgaocar custodian and guided the ball towards the goal, however defender Flagan Rodrigues did well to avert the danger.Couple of minutes later, Saeesh Halarnkar on getting hold of the ball inside the 6-yard box tried to tap it home, however the alert AIFF keeper Aditya Patra managed to get his hands to the ball.
AIFF managed to break the deadlock in the 14th minute of play when the referee found Salgaocar defender Jovan Dias guilty of handling the ball inside the danger zone and pointed to the penalty spot. Edmund Lalrindka who stepped forward to take the kick gave AIFF the lead, 1-0.
Salgaocar tried their level best to get back into the match however Liston Colaco proved to be unlucky in the scoring department when twice his efforts from close range were blocked.Minutes later, Ribhav Sardesai made a fine run into the AIFF citadel only to be thwarted by keeper Aditya Patra.On resumption of play Liston Colaco tried his level best to restore parity for his side however AIFF’s Amal Das kept a close watch on his movements, cutting off the striker’s moves in the bud.In the 60th minute of play, AIFF received a setback when their skipper, Amal Das was shown his second yellow card of the match and had to exit the match.
Despite being a man down, AIFF kept up their performance, keeping a check on the movements of the rival strikers.In the injury moments of the match, Liston Colaco almost netted in the equaliser for Salgaocar however AIFF custodian Aditya did remarkably well to push away the striker’s placing shot.
