Aldona locals protest over swimming pool

Close on the heels of the TCP inspection of the project, coming up at Naikawaddo in Aldona, which has a swimming pool, locals numbering around 40, on Monday, took out a protest march opposing the swimming pool in the project premises.

Not satisfied with the TCP stand, the residents voiced their opposition to the swimming pool.

The locals confronted the sarpanch, Ms Ujwala Khandolkar and sought action against the swimming pool.

Ms Khandolkar sought to pacify the agitators saying that she could not act as the concerned persons had all approvals including that for the swimming pool.

She said that she could not take any action in the matter. However, locals protested and wanted the sarpanch to act against the swimming pool as gram sabha on previous occasions had opposed swimming pools and therefore no swimming pool could be permitted now.

Bowing to pressure from the locals, Ms Khandolkar said that a stop work notice only could be served on the concerned party and beyond that she could not do anything.

Locals then accepted this stand of the sarpanch and demanded that the stop work notice be served at the earliest, to which the sarpanch agreed. [NT]
