Ambelim veterans rally to enter semi-finals

 

Ambelim veterans came from behind to enter the semi-finals of Navelim veterans football tournament when they registered a hard fought 2-1 victory against Siolim veterans in an exciting quarter-finals match played a Rosary grounds, Navelim on Thursday.
 
Siolim veterans started well and when the match was hardly 15 minutes old, went into the lead when their striker Alfred on receiving a pass on the flank from Bobin unleashed a powerful shot to beat the Ambelim keeper. Hardly had the excitement died down, Ambelim veterans retaliated quickly and within two minutes restored parity through Vircio Fernandes when he beat the Siolim keeper with a 20-yard shot. The match was then played closely and both the teams were seen making fast moves but the goalkeepers of both the teams rose to the occasion to clear the ball to safety or bring in good saves. Ambelim who had better ball possession were determined to carry the day and with meticulous passing they broke the Siolim’s last defensive line once again through Vircio who completed his brace of goals in the 58th minute of the second session to take his team into the semi-finals.
