Anjuna panchas allege political interference in sarpanch election

Mapusa: Seven of the eleven Anjuna panchas have alleged political interference for the delay in the election of sarpanch and deputy. The panchas alleged that panch Surendra Govekar is deliberately trying to hamper the process of election. These seven panchas alleged that prior to July 8, when the elections were scheduled, there was a plan in place to scuttle the election of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch. This is evident from the fact that presiding officer Sandesh Naik insisted on getting the consent of minority group of four panchas to hold the election.Further, after the seven panchas approached the High Court, the government fixed July 17 as the date of election; but on Thursday, when the presiding officer instructed the panchayat secretary to serve notice on all 11 panchas informing about the election, the secretary went on sick leave immediately. This is, the panchas said, another evidence that there is a deliberate attempt to scuttle the election.Later, Dharmendra Govekar was deputed as secretary to serve the notices however, Panch Surendra Govekar tried to obstruct the election process by not accepting the notice, they said. However, secretary conducted panchanama and pasted the notice of election at the panch’s residence.
