Panaji: The aptitude test for the students of Class X and XII, being conducted by the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), is underway in the state.
Nearly 35,000 students are answering the test which will help them get their areas of interests assessed, so that they can choose and pursue the right career-oriented courses.
Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’ on Thursday, the director of SCERT Nagraj Honnekeri informed that two service provider agencies have been engaged to conduct the aptitude test for Class X and Class XII students.
“One agency has already begun conducting the aptitude test from December 9, and other will begin from December 13. Once the test is over, the agencies have to submit the results in a week’s time,” he said.
The SCERT had in the last month conducted training workshop for the teachers of the secondary and higher secondary schools on conducting aptitude test and career guidance programme for students.
The test comprises four sections – verbal, numerical, spatial and logical, and each section consists of around 15 questions.
While for the Class X students, the test will guide them to pick the most suitable stream to purse post-SSC studies, for the students of Class XII, the test will recommend them career choices.
Honnekeri said that the teachers will have to study the aptitude test report of each student, and discuss the results with students and their parents and also will counsel them on the basis of their skills, interests, and career options.
After completion of the process of test and finalisation of reports, the SCERT will offer career guidance to the students, between January 6 and 25, 2020.
The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the Education Minister, had during the last Assembly session announced that the aptitude test for the students of Class X and XII would be made mandatory to help them choose the right career-oriented courses.
The government has planned to make this aptitude test and counseling at Class X and XII level an annual exercise to help the students identify the right career for them. [NT]
