Arlekar inaugurates Museum Week 2013
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar inaugurated the Museum Week 2013, organized by Directorate of Museums, at Goa State Museum, here on Monday. Arlekar also inaugurated a photo exhibition entitled ‘Insects: Giants from our backyard.’ The collection has a selection of 8000 objects, such as stone statues, wood made things, bronzes, artwork, manuscripts, numismatic selection, anthropological things, clay-based models etc.
The week-long museum week will focus on various programmes that seeks to create interest among students as well as art lovers through various cultural and other events that will be organised throughout the week.
On January 8, there will be screening of a film at 10am, followed by a lecture on ‘Dragonfly and Damselfly’ by Dr Manoj Borkar, HoD, Biodiversity Research Cell of a Nuvem college, at 3:30 pm. On January 9, a film will be screened at 10 am, followed by a lecture on ‘Engineering youth for Biodiversity Conservation’ by Herpetologist Nirmal Kulkarni at 3:30 pm.
On January 10, the film at 10am will be followed by lecture on ‘Birds of Goa’s Western Ghats’ by Pankaj Lad. On January 11, painting exhibition will be organized and on the concluding day the prize distribution function will be held at 3.30pm. [H]
