Asnodkar, Shukla lift Goa to 312-5
Half centuries from opener Swapnil Asnodkar (74) and middle order batsmen Ravikant Shulka (78*) and Rohit Asnodkar (52*) lifted Goa to 312 for 5 at stumps on day three of their Group C Ranji Trophy match against Services at GCA Academy grounds, Porvorim, Monday.
Goa were still trailing Services by 161 runs after the visitors had made a formidable 473 all out off 153 overs in their first innings.
In reply, the hosts, who resumed the third day’s play on the overnight score of 64 for 1 moved on to reach 312 for 5 at close of play, consuming 117 overs in the process.
Yashpal Singh and A Sinha were the two most successful bowlers for Services returning 2 wickets apiece while S Yadav claimed 1 wicket.
With only final day left to be played, Goa, at best could hope to keep batting for at least two sessions on Tuesday and look to overhaul Services’ total and gain three points in the bargain. Gaining the 1st innings lead will be vital.
Even otherwise, a draw looks imminent as the team that takes the first innings lead would carry home 3 points.
It is imperative therefore, that both the not out batsmen for Goa reach three figure mark and may be with some handy contributions from the tail, the hosts might just manage to gain a slender lead, enough to edge Services on points.
For that to happen Goa’s last five wickets need to add a minimum of 162 runs on the final day. [NT]
