Assonora United FC stun Bidesh XI SC

Mapusa: Assonora United Sports Club stunned Bidesh XI Sports Club 2-0 in the ninth and final round league match of the GFA’s Second Division league, at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.

With Thursday’s defeat, Bidesh XI with 18 points have to wait now for the  result between St Anthony’s SC Marna and Cunchelim SC before they find a place in the playoff. A win for St Anthony’s Marna will take them to the play-off.

In a keen tussle between both the Assonora sides saw Assonora United score both the goals through Dikshay Sarap and Prajoth Arabekar in the first session.

Assonora United found the net in the 25th minute with Dikshay Sarap scoring from the penalty spot after Bidesh defender Harshad Gaonkar was caught in the act of tackling Prajoth inside the penalty box, 1-0.

In the last five minutes before the breather Assonora’s Dhiraj was late to connect a pinpoint cross by Prajoth while a minute later a rasping left footer by Dikshay kissed the upright.

However, in the injury time, Assonora managed to double their lead with Prajoth Arabekar dribbling past Bidesh defender Dravin Mandrekar and scored from outside the box with a blistering right footer, 2-0.

On crossing over while Assonora’s Prajoth ballooned the ball wide from outside the six yard box, at the other end Bidesh XI saw Sahil Pawar power-packed strike being parried to safety. Faheez efforts from close was also blocked by Assonora defender Luis Miranda. [H]
