Auto drivers want 100% fare hike

Following the State government’s decision to make installation of meters compulsory, auto-rickshaw drivers have agreed to install them only if their  demand for a 100 per cent fare hike is met from November 1 onwards. They have also asked for doubling of government subsidy.

Talking to reporters, All Goa Rickshaw Operators Action Committee president Shaikh Abdul Salaskar said that auto-rickshaw operators are ready to install meters, provided their demands for a hike in fares from existing Rs 15 for the first kilometre to Rs 30 and Rs 15 for the subsequent kilometres as against existing Rs 12 are met.

Salaskar said, “If government issues challans for not installing meters, rickshaw operators will stage dharna before Chief Minister’s official residence at Altinho.” [H]
