Ave Maria, Sirvodem play 1-1 draw
Ave Maria A&W Club and Sirvodem SC, Navelim were involved in a 1-1 draw in the GFA U-16 football league played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Wednesday.
Ave Maria shot into the lead in the 23rd minute of play through their defender Askshay J Kande who moved up with the ball after eluding a couple of rival defenders and then unleashed a powerful shot that crashed to the far corner of the nets.
Sirvodem SC restored parity in the next three minutes of play as the Ave Maria goalkeeper brought down Sirvodem striker Brandon Gomes inside the box.
The referee therefore had no hesitation to point to the penalty spot. Bosco Lobo who took the responsibility slotted in the penalty without any difficulty to restore parity.
Though there was no score in the second session, the teams played a very fast match and kept the ball moving all the while. Most of the times, the teams depended on the long ball and despite a couple of powerful shots, there was no score on either side as a result of which, the teams had to share the points for the day.
As of today, Ave Maria are on of top of the league table with 5 points while Snows Football Academy, Raia are on the second spot with 4 points. Colmorod Ratwado are standing 3rd with three points while Sirvodem SC are fourth with only 1 point against their name.
At Cuncolim, Betalbatim SC earned three full points after Sarzora SC failed to report for the match. A walkover was therefore given by the referee in favour of Betalbatim. [NT]
