The Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr Avertano Furtado, on Thursday assured to take up the issue of devolution of powers to zilla panchayats (ZPs)with the state government.
Mr Furtado was speaking as the chief guest during the launching of welfare schemes for zilla panchayat on Thursday afternoon in the presence of the director of panchayat, Mr Narayan Sawant, the chairperson of zilla panchayat, Ms Nelly Rodrigues and other officials.
The South Goa zilla panchayat launched various vocational training based self-employment schemes.

She said efforts are on to focus on vocational training so as to make the youth self employed rather than depending on government for jobs.
Ms Rodrigues also submitted a 22-point charter of demands to Mr Furtado and urged him to take up the matter with the state government.
The demands include increasing additional funds for rural infrastructure development, allotment of new premises for SGZP, increase in staff strength among others.
Mr Furtado said that he will surely take up the matter with the Minister for Panchayats and the Chief Minister and complimented the South Goa ZP for taking up innovative projects for the betterment of community.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Sawant informed that the government is currently scrutinising the demands, adding that all the demands may not be met, however, they are under consideration, adding that innovative projects by the ZP will boost self employment in the state. [NT]
