Back Amcho Avaz to protect Goan identity, people urged

Independent MLAs Benjamin D’Silva and Vijai Sardesai have urged the people to support newly-launched Konkani weekly Amcho Avaz for the protection of Konkani language and Goan identity.
The two MLAs made the appeal at a function held at the Ravindra Bhavan to mark the silver jubilee show of Simon Gonsalves’ Lenten drama “Government of God” on Wednesday.
In his address, Velim MLA, Benjamin Silva said that Konkani language will get a big boost if people read and support the Konkani weekly Amcho Avaz. He complimented tiatr director Simon Gonsalves for promoting Konkani even though he resides abroad.
Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardessai said Konkani language should be promoted in all spheres of life in order to protect Goan identity and culture. “There cannot be any dilution of Konkani’s pre-eminent status in Goa. Marathi cannot have the same status on par with Konkani since that would only bring in hordes of outsiders into the State”, he said, while making an impassioned plea to the people to promote Amcho Avaz and help promote Konkani language.
