Bandora Comunidade land: locals stop work

Residents on Friday forcibly stopped construction work at a proposed residential project on Bandora Comunidade land at Farmagudi and advised people to refrain from investing in the controversial project.

Even as the Bandora village panchayat has revoked provisional NOC issued to the sub-division of comunidade land at Farmagudi, a contractor allegedly undertook developmental work and angry villagers decided to stop the work.

Villagers claimed that an earthmover was engaged by the contractor since Thursday to carry out excavation work on land belonging to the Bandora comunidade.

It may be recalled that villagers have been opposing a proposed residential project since last three years, after claiming that the 87,000 sq mt land at Bandora comunidade is a grazing area. The issue has been debated several times in the Gram Sabha meetings and residents have been vociferously opposing residential projects in the area.

“People from Bandora have been raising objection, after we came to know that grazing land has been illegally used to set up of residential projects. This is in total violation of the rules as no developmental activity can be undertaken at the site. I don’t understand how the contractor could undertake work even after panchayat had revoked the provisional NOC,” said Govind Gaude from Bandora.

“We request people not to buy or invest in the project as this is on grazing land and any development is illegal by law. People should be careful while investing in such projects”, warned Gaude. [H]
