Bardez SDM warns HP gas dealer against harassment of Calangute consumers

Taking a serious note of alleged harassment meted out by the HP gas dealer to the consumers of Calangute and equipped with a memorandum submitted to him by the residents of Calangute, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bardez,
Mr Sabaji Shetye has warned the gas agency dealer not to play truant and harass the consumers else he would have to forfeit his agency.
Mr Shetye on Tuesday held a meeting in his office with the HP gas agency dealer. Also present for the meeting was Mr Arvind Singh of HP gas agency, Mr Eudes D’Souza from the consumer movement of Calangute and Mamlatdar, Mr Pundalik Khorjuvekar. Mr Shetye was quite critical over the manner in which injustice was being done to Calangute residents and also with the fact that there was no home delivery and a lot of pending backlog with the agency.
Mr Shetye pointed out to the agency dealer that as per rule they had to continue their home delivery and could not just stop it and take the consumers for a ride. Mr Shetye said that he has strictly warned the gas agency dealer not to resort to tactics of putting consumers into inconvenience. Mr Shetye also informed that he has instructed the dealer to start with his home delivery and start clearing the backlog.
Another meeting has been fixed by the SDM on December 13 to review the action initiated by the dealer with respect to easing the trouble to the consumers.
Meanwhile, residents of Siolim are also quite upset with the same HP gas agency who has also all of a sudden stopped home delivery there. Residents are also planning to seek the intervention of government officials to regularise home delivery as the same has been discontinued without any reason for over a month.  [NT]
