BJP slams Pawar for politicising issue
A day after Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar assured the mining dependent people that he would convene a meeting of related union ministries to find a solution to the mining crisis, the BJP criticised Pawar for politicising the issue and blamed the NCP for also being responsible for the mining ‘mess.’
“The issue of special package was put forth before the prime minister and a detailed proposal has also been forwarded (to the Centre),” BJP spokesman Dr Pramod Sawant said, contradicting Pawar’s assertion Monday that no proposal from the State government had been received. He also said that the state government has already put forth the complete picture of mining industry and its impact on state economy before the Supreme Court.
On Monday, Pawar met the pro-mining agitators at Azad Maidan, who have been protesting for last 22 days, demanding immediate resumption of mining.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Sawant said that rather than taking a delegation to New Delhi, Pawar needed to help the State by granting a financial package from the Centre to support the rehabilitation of mining affected people. He also said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had already decided to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi, at an appropriate time.
Sawant said that Pawar’s assurance to call for a meeting of concerned ministers and to head a delegation to Delhi was ‘unwarranted’. “He is just trying to politicise the issue. His party (NCP), which was part of previous Congress coalition, is also responsible for this mess,” he said. [H]
