Bollywood float to add glamour to carnival


 A Bollywood float decked with film star Neha Dhupia, Sayali Bhagat, Tanushree Dutta, Isha Koppikar and others will add glamour to this year’s carnival celebrations, which kick off on February 9, from DB marg, Panjim. Central Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi will inaugurate the five day festival.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar Wednesday reiterated final plans to add a ‘Food and Cultural Festival’ to this year’s Carnival celebrations and stated that the idea of allowing floats from neighbouring states had been dropped.
Speaking at the press conference to announce the opening of Carnival, Parulekar announced new initiates to raise Carnival to international standards.
“The Food & Cultural festival from February 8-12 at NIWS ground at Caranzalem will offer visitors opportunity to experience cuisine and culture in a positive way,” he said. This section is likely to have participation from other neighbouring states.
The festival will be spiced with local and national live music performances, fashion shows and other forms of entertainment. About 16 models from Goa, Bangalore and Mumbai will be donning international designer Wendell Rodricks’s collection which also include Kunbi Saree.
With an emphasis on attracting more tourists and encouraging local participation, special Parulekar assured there will not be any vulgarity displays throughout the festival. Various competitions have been organized during the festival. Carnival will then move on to Mapusa, Vasco and Margao as well.
Tourism Director Nikhil Desai, Goa Tourism Corporation Limited Chairman Nilesh Cabral, Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panjim Vaidehi Naik, CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues, chairpersons of the three municipalities and others were also present at the briefing. [H]
