Burglar makes abortive bid on ATM
This lone burglar made an abortive bid to break open an ATM of State Bank of India at its Navelim branch late last night
CCTV footage revealed that the masked burglar entered the ATM at around 12.55 am on Thursday. Attired in a black coloured jacket and a black mask, he effected entry into the ATM and is believed to have first put a black tape on the camera to blank the recording.
The incident came to light this morning when the ATM camera was found covered with a tape. Bank Manager Pramod Kumar Pandey told Herald that the CCTV camera installed inside the ATM was covered by a tape. “There were some marks of gas cutter on the body of the ATM. The down gate of the ATM was also found broken,” he said.
Pandey has now requested the Margao police to arrange regular patrolling of the area to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Incidentally, a black colour jacket was found inside the car used by the two Belgaum based criminals, who were arrested by Colva police on Thursday evening. Since the burglar tried to open the ATM with a gas cutter, police are trying to find out the connection with the Belgaum criminals and the ATM case as they found gas cutter in the car carrying the criminals [H]
