Burglars loot; police play fool

Burglars struck gold in Margao on Monday, but the town police did not deem fit to requisition the services of a police dog or a finger print expert to assist them in the investigation.
In a daring daylight burglary, unknown miscreants barged inside an apartment in the busy Hari Mandir locality this morning and decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs seven lakh.
The incident occurred between 8.45 am and 11 am when the inmates had gone to Panjim for their personal work. When they returned back, they found the flat door open.
Jessica Fernandes and her husband returned to find their home ransacked and burgled. The miscreants have lifted away Jessica’s gold ornaments. Surprisingly, they did not lift away other valuables, including a laptop. And surprisingly they did not touch any other cupboard other than the one where Jessica had kept her ornaments.
What surprised Jessica and her husband is that the police neither called for a police dog nor a finger print expert to help obtain clues. On the contrary, the police tried to instill fear in the couple that the husband will not be able to go abroad if a case is registered at the police station.
The incident sent shock waves in the busy locality, even as the personnel at the Margao police station feigned ignorance about the burglary. A Margao police personnel, who was identified as Kottarkar, said that he has no idea whether a burglary has taken place near the Hari Mandir area.
Incidentally, the daring burglary comes at a time when the Margao police have asked citizens to be wary of a “chaddi” gang moving around in under wears during the nights. [H]
