Bus, motorcycle gutted in fire at city bus stand

A stationary passenger bus caught fire after a motorcycle fuel tank burst into flames at the KTC bus stand in the city on Tuesday evening. The fire and emergency services personnel, who arrived on the scene in the nick of time and doused the flames, put the losses at around Rs 10 lakh.

As per eye witnesses, a motorcycle that was parked near the Maruti temple inside the bus stand was accidentally hit by a moving bus causing the two-wheeler fuel tank to rupture and burst into flames. This fire then spread to a stationary bus (GA-01-T-8370).
However, police sub inspector, Mr Narayan Chimulkar, who was present on the scene, said that it was too early to ascertain the cause of fire.
The in-charge of Panaji fire service station, Mr Bosco Ferrao, also stated that the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained. [NT]
