Camurlim residents demand arrest of Assagao murder accused
Around 200 residents of Camurlim village led by the sarpanch, Ms Dalvi, ex-sarpanch, Mr Sharad Gaad and other panch members on Tuesday evening marched to the Mapusa police station demanding the immediate arrest of Assagao murder accused Ranjit Tuyekar who has been evading arrest for almost 45 days now.
This protest march follows an attack on a 12-year-old girl at Camurlim with the accused suspected to be Tuyekar. The residents of Camurlim wondered what was preventing the police in putting together all their resources and nabbing the accused knowing very well that he was a threat to locals. They accused the police of helping the accused Tuyekar to go about freely.
The residents informed the police that they could bring in more people and even assist the police in nabbing the accused Tuyekar and the police should act now without any delay else the locals would be forced to take law in their hands. The locals till late Tuesday evening were present at the Mapusa police station demanding action from the police. [NT]
