Can’t leave Board exam hall before first hour in 2013
Students answering the Class X and Class XII public exams in 2013 will be bound to sit through the first hour of the test. A new clause to this effect has been added by the Goa board of secondary and higher secondary education (GBSHSE), as a measure of caution to prevent paper leaks.
The decision came after the GBSHSE decided to extend the time for students to enter the hall in case of emergencies from half-an-hour after the exam begins, to one hour this year.
Many cases of genuine emergencies came to the GBSHSE's notice at the last public exam, where students got delayed by over half-an-hour due to unavoidable circumstances such as last-minute breakdown of vehicles, traffic jams and the like. As the examination is a stepping stone in the career of young students, the Board has decided to extend the time of entry to the examination hall in cases of emergencies.
As a result of the change, if students are allowed to leave the examination hall before the first one hour is over, it could lead to possible leakage of the examination papers, thus the GBSHSE added the new clause that disallows students from leaving the examination hall before the first 60 minutes of the exam are over.
"Late arrival beyond one hour after the commencement of the examination in each subject shall disqualify the candidate to appear for the examination. No candidate shall be allowed to leave the hall before the first hour of the examination," the circular, issued this month, states.
The Board's Class XII exams will begin from March 2, 2013 and the Class X exams will be held from March 28 onwards. Close to 24,000 students will take the exams this year. [TOI]
