Candolim SC enter London trophy finals

Candolim SC made a maiden entry into the finals of the 7th London Football Trophy, organised by Goa-Velha SC and played on Goa-Velha grounds, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over a fighting Navelim Villagers Union. Kleiber opened the scoring for Candolim off a goal mouth melee.

Alvito Colaco of Navelim latched on to a long clearance from goal keeper Jonathan but his stiff grounder eluded a diving Candolim keeper Marshal and the up right also. Alvito Colaco equalised for Navelim as his looping drive from 30 yards after being fed by Domnic Cabral curled past a helpless Candolim keeper Marshal. At half time both teams shared a goal each. Sagar scored the 2nd goal as he blasted powerfully past Jonathan off a pass from Canute. Sigmund made it 3-1 after speeding past the centre of the Navelim defense and slotted past an advancing Jonathan. Navelim was awarded a penalty as Candolim’s Atish handled the ball on the goal line. Sunford then stepped up and converted a goal to make it 3-2. Candolim SC will meet Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim in the finals to be played on March 19. [NT]
