Cansaulim villagers demand tripartite agreement on Dabolim airport
The villagers of Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim during the gram sabha, on Sunday, unanimously sought retention of the Dabolim airport, which is undergoing expansion, as the only airport in the state.
For this, the villagers want that a tripartite agreement be signed between the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Airport Authority of India, as the airport is synonymous with the Goan identity,
The resolution pertaining to this was moved by a social activist, Dr Marconi Correia.
Dr Correia said that the BJP government which won a resounding victory in 2012 assembly election, without mentioning the Mopa airport in its manifesto, should not fall prey to the carrot offered by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in the form of greenfield airport at Mopa.
He asserted that the central agencies like the Army, MPT, CISF and CRPF are either occupying huge tracts of Goan land or are eyeing prime land in Goa and all the tall promises made by former prime minister late Pandit Nehru and All India Congress Committee, president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, about the special status for Goa have turned out to be empty.
