Capping of Sonsoddo dump by May, says dy CM
Urban development minister Francis D'Souza visited the solid waste management plant at Sonsoddo on Monday and expressed his satisfaction over its functioning, even as he suggested that the pace of work should be notched up.
He was accompanied by director of municipal administration Sandeep Jacques, MMC chief officer Sandhya Kamat and chairperson Arthur D'Silva.
Stating that the scientific capping of the existing garbage dump will be completed by May, D'Souza said that that will put to an end to most of the garbage-related problems.
He said that the MMC has also been told to appoint a consultant for the capping exercise and to effect the payment of the bills raised by the concessionaire of the project so far. Replying to a query over amendment to the concession agreement, D'Souza said that "some adjustments will be worked out" as the capping exercise will save the work of segregating the garbage. When pointed out that the MMC employees have not been using the biometric attendance recorder, D'Souza wondered why the MMC was not using the powers vested in it to take disciplinary action against the erring staff by following "proper procedure".
