Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Airport Director BCH Negi, Additional collector South Johnson Fernandes, Deputy Commandant CISF Commandant Satish Singh, and other stakeholders including the representative of Indian Navy and airlines operators attended the meeting.“MLCP facility is very important issue that had to be resolved on priority. there was some security issues raised by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security(BCAS) due to which the much needed facility of  Dabolim airport could not be put to use, however after due deliberations, the DRDO sent a proposal to modify the MLCP building plan and to construct a security wall. AAI have already started the works and perhaps may be by January or February next year this facility will be put to use” he said.
He further added that “With regards to creating more parking facility, there is a piece of land owned by Chicalim Communidade opposite to the new Airport terminal building, across the railway line. The committee has requested AAI to take steps and move a file before the government so that Communidade land can be taken over and used as additional parking facility for airport” he added.During the meeting it was also brought to the notice of members present that the AAI has already started the process of demolishing the  old terminal building to create more parking bay for aircraft and the work would be complete in a year’s time. Various other issues such as the expansion of the airport, repairs,  night landing facility for aircraft, chaos at tourist taxi counter at the airport, garbage, bird hits, dog menace at the airport, passengers complaining of  delay at immigration counter etc was discussed.“As far as the works related for airport expansion is concerned, the same will be completed in a year’s time, similarly the internal renovation of the airport including signages, carpet, toilets facilities have already begun and within six months the same will be completed. Also during the meeting issue of Immigration facility and international passengers getting delayed at immigration counter were raised. As discussed last year, AAI has already confirmed that they will put a new system in place, some new officers will be recruited and deputed at immigration counter so that more counters can be operated” Sawaikar said.
Garbage around the airport and dog menace posing risk to flight operations was also an issue that was discussed at length. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida offered help to AAI in getting airport garbage disposed at plant owned by Mormugao Municipality after holding talks with Mormugao Municipality along with AAI.AAI director Negi said “The issue of delay at immigration counter arises only when two international flights arrive at Dabolim airport at the same time. Both these aircrafts land with over 700 passengers and this leads to congestion. Immigration department officer have already taken  note of the delay in immigration clearance and it has been assured that they would soon recruit more 20 immigration staffs after which most of the immigration counters will function together and in next tourists season the problem will be resolved” Negi said.
