Carlos for instant mass swab collection drive in Khariwada

Vasco: In order to check the spread of COVID infection, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida Saturday requested the district administration in South Goa to conduct a mass swab-collection drive in Khariwada, parts of which have been declared as a containment zone and buffer zones.

Speaking to media during a press briefing, Almeida said, “The district administration, South, should consider certain important aspects with respect to the Khariwada containment zone and buffer zones thus benefitting the people at large.”

“The district administration should conduct a mass throat swab collection drive on immediate basis. Whoever is found positive for COVID-19 should be sent to the COVID hospital so as to contain the spread of the disease. The failure on the part of the district administration to address this important aspect could lead to a second ‘Mangor-Hill’ where cases of COVID are increasing by the day since over a month,” said Almeida.

He requested the district administration to make immediate provision to distribute groceries and other necessary food grains so that the people do not become frustrated and come out from the containment zone. “Immediate arrangement should be made to supply essential commodities to each household and it should be done with proper planning,” the MLA said.

The Vasco legislator also said the local councillors should be taken into

confidence in order to ensure smooth functioning of the distribution of commodities and also the mass throat swab collection drive in the Khariwada containment zone.

Stating that the councillors should be given responsibilities in their wards so that things can be carried out smoothly, Almeida said mistakes made elsewhere should not be repeated in the Khariwada containment zone and the buffer zones. He said the authorities have declared more areas in Vasco as containment zones in order to bring the spread of infection under control. [NT]
