Carmona locals irked by power bills’ clubbing
Opposition to the Mopa airport found an echo in the gram sabha of the Carmona village panchayat held on Sunday, with the gram sabha members adopting a unanimous resolution in that regard. Dabolim should be retained as the sole civilian airport for Goa, the resolution added.
Gram sabha members also expressed their disapproval over the practice of the electricity department of issuing electricity bills for 2-3 months together instead of billing the consumers on a monthly basis. Villagers pointed out that this caused a lot of inconvenience to them and demanded that the panchayat take up the issue with the authorities. The gram sabha was assured that the panchayat will write to the electricity department in that regard.
Gram sabha members also brought to the notice of the panchayat the inconvenience caused to the motorists owing to parking of vehicles on the road overnight and urged the panchayat to take steps to prevent night parking of vehicles on the streets. The panchayat assured the gram sabha of taking up the issue with the RTO authorities and the Colva police.
The issue of the mega projects in the village also came to the fore at the meeting, but the panchayat body assured the villagers that no proposal for a mega construction project will be approved without it being placed before the gram sabha.
The issue of the proposal of development of the village playground also came up for discussion. [H]
