Cashless transactions in 85-90% urban schools, say DoE

Porvorim: Department of Education (DoE) has stated that just 85-90 percent of institutes in urban areas have begun cashless transactions, while in rural areas the process has come to a standstill due to poor internet connectivity.Speaking to Herald, Education Director GP Bhat said, “As of now fee registration for aided schools, tuition fee for unaided schools, examination fees and PTA funds are being done in cashless mode. At the time of admission schools provide details of bank accounts by which fees can be deposited either by visiting the branch or by online transfer. In big schools, point of sale (POS) facility is also provided,” Bhat said.DoE in December 2016 had issued a circular to heads of all educational institutions requesting them to instruct teachers, students and their parents to ensure cashless transactions for all purposes.
The department further said that their aim is to make all educational institutes in Goa cashless and that the digital mode of payment will cover all government, aided and unaided primary to higher secondary schools in the State.Sources further said that cashless transactions include wages to contract workers, procurement of goods and services for educational institutes.“Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), and the State Council of Educational Research and Training are transacting through cashless mode,” sources said.
