Cavelossim gram sabha approves dredging of river Sal
Cavelossim villagers on Sunday resolved to give permission to dredge the mouth of river Sal from Cavelossim panchayat after local fishermen had proposed the same for a better navigational channel.
Sarpanch, Ms Viola D’Costa, speaking to ‘The Navhind Times,’ said that dredging of river mouth is important as trawlers and boats are facing navigational problems. “The panchayat will inform the Captain of Ports about the fresh resolution,” she added.
It may be noted that in September, a special gram sabha was called by the panchayat to discuss the dredging of the sand bar at the mouth of river Sal, and tenders were floated by the Captain of Ports (CoP) calling for bids.
The villagers had then resolved to obtain NOCs from CRZ authorities, state pollution control board, water resources department before the panchayat granting permission for the work.
Local MLA, Mr Caitano D’Silva, who attended the gram sabha, assured to solve the problems faced by local fishermen. He urged the villagers to work unitedly for their welfare.
The issue of a proposed hotel extension was also discussed at the gram sabha. Few locals, especially the taxi owners demanded that the panchayat should oppose the project, and accordingly, it was resolved to oppose the same. Others issues like garbage disposal, road width and electricity supply problem also came up for discussion. [NT]
