CCP meet ends in chaos
A meeting of the corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP) on Thursday caused friction between the ruling and opposition councillors over the issue of discussion on urgent matters and ended in chaos after the listed agenda was passed hurriedly in the din.
After the monthly ordinary meeting commenced, councillors Surendra Furtado and Rudresh Chodankar raised the issue of the sealing of Rayu Pai Vernekar's sub-leased shop in the market. The sub-tenant had challenged the sealing of the shop before Bombay high court at Goa, after failing to secure any relief from the district court.
Furtado alleged that it was ethically wrong of advocate general A N S Nadkarni to represent the sub-tenant against CCP.
Another councillor, Bento Lorena said that the maintenance of lawns, gardens and pavements in his ward was poor. At this stage, the opposition asked for a discussion on pressing issues, but mayor Vaidehi Naik insisted that the matters listed on the agenda should be preferred.
This led to a heated discussion between the two sides. In the prevailing din, various resolutions and issues on the agenda, which included laying of two gardens and roads in Ribandar, were declared approved at the meeting. [TOI]
