Chief Minister says serious probe is on in Vasco girl case

Stating that a ‘serious investigation is on’ in the Vasco minor sexual assault case, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar sought to deflect attention from the apparent lack of progress in the investigation and the fact that the father has filed a parallel case in the Children’s court.
“The basic problem is to identify the culprit,” he said adding, ‘The evidence which could have given another angle to the case has been washed.” He was referring to the school authorities washing the child after the heinous crime was committed.
“The police have made this a prestige issue,” he said, arguing that with a “little luck” a solution would be found.
When asked about deterrence such as installation of CCTVs, he said that they would not prevent crime but “our alertness would.”   [H]
