Chimbel locals irked over ‘closed’ FPS

Ration cardholders of a Fair Price Shop (FPS) in Chimbel have found it difficult to get their essential commodities as the shop is found close on many days of the month.
A ration card holder, Sandesh Bhandari, claimed that every month he has to make several trips to the FPS to get his ration quota as the shop is regularly found closed.
“It is hardly open for even 15 days in a month. Whenever the FPS is found open, it is only after 6 pm and there is a huge rush of consumers,” he added.
Pointing to the timings displayed on the board, which reads from 9 am to 1 pm and 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, Bhandari questioned the logic of displaying the timing when it is rarely followed by the shop owner.
The situation is further worsened as another FPS located at Kirlawada has been closed and all consumers of that shop have been transferred to the irregular FPS, which only adds to the problem.
Consumers have now demanded that the Civil Supplies Department should conduct an inquiry into the matter and ensure that the commodities reach the ration card holders.
Despite repeated efforts, the owner of the FPS was not available for comments in the matter. [H]
