Chukwudi treble in Sesa FA’s 5-0 win

An outstanding hat-trick by Chukwudi Chukwuma enabled Sesa Football Academy to register a 5-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the Kingfisher Goa Professional League match, played at Poriat grounds on Wednesday.

Highest scorer in the league so far, Chukwudi scored the quickest goal in the very first minute of play, with a superb individual effort. It did not take long for the Nigerian lad to net in two more goals scoring in the 9th and 14th minute.

With today’s win, Sesa moved to 17 points from their seventh league engagement, while Goa Velha are yet to open their account also playing their seventh league match.

Chukwudi almost netted his fourth goal, but Goal Velha keeper Siddesh Morge parried the ball for a corner.

In the injury time Mauvin Borges after receiving a through pass from medio Marcus Fernandes, beat the rival keeper with a neat placement, to make it 4-0.

Goa Velha who did shine in patches in the first half started brightly on crossing ends. A splendid cross from the right flank by Nerry Alfonso was swayed over the post by Sesa custodian Thockchom Singh.

When it looked that Goa Velha were getting back into the match, Adolf Caidao and Nester Dias were given marching orders by referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar in the 65th and 67th minute, for rough play and in the remaining part of the match Goa Velha were restricted to nine men.

Substitute Amol Salgaonkar who came in Chukwudi’s place in the 70th minute drove a stiff grounder which was brilliantly saved by keeper Siddesh, who once again came to his team’s rescue, as he stopped Girish Naik’s hot-blooded shot from close range.

However the keeper could do very little as in the 87th minute as Girish Naik after getting hold of a ball on the left flank, beat his marker and upon entering the 18-yard box drilled the ball past the rival keeper to make it 5-0. [NT]
