Churchill could withdraw from AFC Cup

Mr Churchill Alemao, the chief patron of Churchill Brothers SC team on Wednesday stated that if the AIFF failed to release four of their players from the India camp by February 22, the team will be forced to withdraw from the AFC Cup. Mr Alemao disclosed this at a press briefing.
Mr Joaquim Alemao, his son Mr Yuri Alemao, Mr Ciabro Alemao and Mr Raul Fernandes were also present. Mr Joaquim Alemao too reiterated that Churchill Bros would be forced to take this drastic decision as there is no point in travelling to Hong Kong to play their first AFC Cup match against a strong team like Kitchi SC, Hong Kong without their regular players and new recruit Sunil Chhetri. Lenny Rodrigues, Sandip Nandy and Denzil Franco are in the India camp.
“I will be speaking to the general secretary of the AIFF, Mr Kushal Das after this press briefing, informing him of our inability to participate in the AFC Cup without the release of our four key players,” Mr Alemao thundered. “I hope to get a positive response,” he added.
Mr Joaquim stated that the management of his team has cooperated with the AIFF when a request was made to include their team in the AFC Cup and now the AIFF is expected to cooperate with his team’s management too, adding further that he has confidence that the AIFF will do the needful. NT
Meanwhile, it was informed that Churchill Brothers have recruited Balal Arezou, a striker from  Afghanistan national team in addition to Lami Thamba and Sunil Chhetri.
Churchill are slated to play their first AFC Cup match on Feb 26 in Hong Kong. [NT]
