Churchill eye full points against Lajong

Churchill Brothers Sports Club are targeting full points from their next three matches in an attempt to steer clear at the top of the I-League table.
Churchill’s first task will be to garner a win against Shillong Lajong FC at Duler Stadium’s artificial turf, a result that technical director Subhash Bhowmick believes will hold his team in good stead as his player troop out on Friday (Jan4).
“Matches at Duler can be tricky. It’s a new surface so will need time to be in good shape,” said Bhowmick.
Churchill Brothers are currently second on the table with 25 points, one less than defending champions Dempo Sports Club who have played a match extra. A win will see Churchill stay at the top, regardless of what happens in the other matches this round.
“My players have put up confident performances. I am proud of them but there is a need to be consistent. I feel the next three matches will be crucial. If we can get good results, our confidence will be at an all-time high,” said Bhowmick.
Bhowmick understands that Shillong Lajong, despite the ten spots that separate them, will provide a stiff challenge and his team needs to be ready for counter punches.
“They gave us a hard time at home and even at Duler they will come hard at us. They are a good side and, at this level, you dare not take anything for granted,” said the Churchill technical director. Churchill are most likely to miss the services of Bikramjit Singh and Tomba Singh, both of whom are nursing injuries. Shillong Lajong are placed 11th on the table. AGENCIES
They have just two wins under their belt but Desmond Bulpin’s side has shown signs of upsetting the calculations of major teams. [NT]
